Our Vision
"We challenge ourselves to grow, contribute and succeed in the light of God"
The school was given to the community by the Church for the good of the community. We aim to serve our community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice.
Our vision is key to this success and sets the expectation for all within our community including children, parents and staff. We want everyone to contribute and develop as active citizens, who are part of something bigger than themselves. This will lead to them living their life in all its fullest in the light of God.
Our vision allows the community to grow and succeed academically, spiritually, socially and emotionally. Woodlands is a safe environment for this growth as pupils, parents and staff are challenged and supported to be the best version of themselves.
In striving for our vision, we maintain the vision of the original foundation of our Church and the Church of England Vision for education in being ‘deeply Christian, serving the common good’
Our vision is closely aligned with the BDAT vision “We want every child to have a happy and high-quality education enabling them to grow and flourish during their time at school.” but tailored to the needs of our unique community.
Our Christian Values
At Woodlands, our Christian values of Aspiration, Courage, Respect, Service and Compassion shape everything we do. These values are more than words—they are lived out daily by pupils and staff alike and guide our decisions, relationships, and actions.
- Aspiration drives us to aim high, persevere through challenges, and support all members of our community to achieve their full potential in the light of God.
- Courage helps us step outside our comfort zones, make brave choices, and stand up for what is right, even when it’s difficult.
- Respect ensures every individual is valued. We listen, celebrate difference, and treat one another with dignity and kindness.
- Service teaches us to look beyond ourselves, using our gifts and time to help others and contribute positively to the school and wider community.
- Compassion is shown in the way we care for one another—offering empathy, support, and love to those in need.
Together, these values foster a nurturing, ambitious, and inclusive environment where all can grow, flourish and live well together.
Collective Worship
At Woodlands Church of England Primary we hold an act of daily collective worship which is Christian in nature. We meet together as a school community to drive our school vision and values, link biblical teachings to real life actions and support our spiritual development.
All worship is inclusive and invitational meaning those of different faiths and those with no faith feel valued in this special part of our school day.
Children are routinely involved in the delivery of our worship, with many enjoying taking roles in our agreed liturgy and prayer.
Partnerships
At Woodlands we value the partnerships that we hold with the local and Christian community.
St Andrew's Church
As a school, we have strong links with St Andrew's Church located in Oakenshaw. Throughout the year Rev. Paul delivers worship in school and we visit church for services such as Christingle, Harvest and Easter.
Zephaniah Trust
We are pleased to invite the Zephaniah trust into school each half term to lead worship. The Zephaniah Trust are a local charity regularly visiting as many as 50 schools in the local area, to deliver inspirational worship.
Wider Christian Community
We make the most of links within our community and regularly have visits from a Reverend of a local Moravian Church. They use stories of the bible to link to our current school Christian value.
